Success depends on people. Usually small companies have rapid success in the beginning because everyone in the company gives the best he can for the common wealth. The temp is increasing constantly and the owners do not have the time and physical options to care about all process details. As a result, the working process slows down and the turnover is decreasing. Apart from that, usually the processes are not put on paper, they are hosted only in the managers’ heads, who do not have time to transfer the knowledge to their employees. Even the best employees cannot read thoughts and thus they cannot fulfil the boss’s expectations at 100%. And we all want our expectations to be met 120%…
What happens to the company?
When a person is in the whirlwind and wants to do all the job in the world, he does not have a wish and possibility to couch his workers, e.g. the people who help him to grow.
I am sure it happened to any of us to wake up in the morning, to dress quickly and run to the office or the factory. We haven’t made the beds, neither washed the dishes from the dinner, nor were kind to our kinds – as we were in rush. But if we expect guests, for sure we shall find time to tide our homes.
It is the same with our company. Our employees are our guests. In order to give the best from them, these people need to whirl their fantasy and skills on a clean terrain – where the results will be visible. The qualitative people do not seek the easy way, they seek challenges. So, if you delegate structuring the processes, these people will do it with pleasure. And vice versa, if by any reason(s), deliberately or due to negligence, you as owner stop the progress or you don’t know how to exit the chaos, these people will be unhappy within your company.
If you don’t want to change anything, you definitely will have problems with your staff – either the employees are passive, or are just coming to work, waiting for pension. The entire pressure is focused on the managers and real workers are missing. There are excuses that nobody taught the staff what to do and how to do it. The job is with poor quality.
If you don’t know how to exit the chaos, ask for help. The help usually comes from your qualitative people. They give ideas, search for variants, propose decisions. When there are no internal resources, the help could be found outside the company.
Have you thought why when one business owner opens a second company, the second business runs faster and better than the first one? This is because he has already seen that without a structure and written procedures, the business runs hard.
It is visible that recently the labor market is complicated. But there are people for work. If you want real professionals on board but, due to the mess in your company, you do not give them chances to show their skills, they quit the job. And then your loss is huge because you lose the smart and competent people. The chance to replace them with low-quality staff is really big. Nowadays everyone investigates the potential employers. And if one company has the image of a slow-mover and there are no indications for improvements, no one wants to work there.
Describing the processes on paper and implementing them in the company is not a long-time or impossible task. Actually the simply written and clear steps make miracles and unchain the owners and managers, whose main responsibility is to drag the firm ahead. Thus, please find a month time and clear and arrange properly every department. Let a new energy, enthusiasm and charge come in the firm. It depends on us to invite our guests in a tidy company and to set solid grounds which to work for us for a long time.
